Export Controls

About Export Controls

History, policy development, legislation, news and institutional experience

Export control laws are federal regulations that govern how certain information, technologies, and commodities can be transmitted to anyone, including U.S. citizens, or to a foreign national. While the University of Wisconsin-Madison is guided by a policy of openness in research, these laws have the potential to impact research conducted at the University. This site was developed in 2000 when laws that govern export controls were changing. It endeavors to include updates on history, policy development and legislation, news, and selected institutional experience.
