Event: Museum of Mysterious Meteorological Machines

Join us in the AOSS Library on Thursday, July 30 from 10:00AM-2:00PM for a one-day-only exhibition of meteorological instruments and devices built and designed by SSEC researchers over the past five decades (snacks provided)!

The AOSS Library has a collection of one-of-a-kind meteorological instruments in storage. In our efforts to describe and catalog these objects, we have discovered that we do not know much about them, or which SSEC projects they were built to support! So, we’re calling on you to share your institutional knowledge with us and help us preserve SSEC’s material history and scientific contributions. If you designed, built, programmed, soldered, wired, or otherwise used a bespoke electronic object for an SSEC research project, please join us for this event and share with us what you know about these objects.

Everyone is invited to this event, regardless of your knowledge of the instruments on display. Join us if you’re curious to see something new and learn more about the building! Come eat snacks and browse the museum exhibits; place your “bets” (non-monetary) on what these mysterious objects might be (the funniest answer wins); and watch a projection of 35mm slides from the 70s, 80s, and 90s showcasing our building’s history.
